Hastings' Annual Edible Fashion Award Function offered loads of fun and showers of taste last weekend. It turned out to be a lip-smacking fiesta that made everybody's day, be it wholehearted foodies or ardent fashion-freaks!

Admirers from all over Hawke's Bay delighted in the treats, for it gratified everyone' eyes as well as stomach. Not far off from 50 groups picked up the challenge and created an edible outfit on Saturday. But the one team, which did beat all and admitted its unique talent, was from Karamu High School in Hastings. The exclusive garment from this ultimate winner-band was named 'Sweet Rock' by the designers Jess Phillips and Sam Marks.
Fifteen-year-old Saskia van Rijk, embellished in stunningly delicious apparel, took everybody's breath away with her mouth-watering-stage-appearance! The attire consisted of licorice bracelets, licorice earrings, a phony tongue acquired from a joke store and a toffee-guitar.
Saskia asserted with a victorious-grin at the event:
I was asked to break the guitar on the stage when we won and I really smashed it to smithereens there.
And thus, the group not only bagged its Age Category, but also took home the General Hastings Pak 'N Save Edible Designer of the Year Award.
