Year 2011 is winding to a close and everyone is eagerly waiting for the spring trends to emerge. The runways have been increasingly colourful, thanks to the spring colours and the refreshing prints that evoke memories of flowers and butterflies and the singing birds. Spring 2012 does not disappoint in any way and we have colors, ruffles, prints, fringes, glitter and what not to indulge in. The trends are also a trip down the fashion of yesteryears with a number of styles re-emerging with great gusto.
Presenting below, the seven best spring trends of 2012.
The chirpy choice

The inspiration for this creation comes from humming birds, pheasants, swans etc. which are used in varying forms. Designs range from bold silhouettes of birds perched on the shoulders and chest, elegant and flowing lines that remind f fluttering birds, abstract bird art and shades and hues that remind us of these beautiful creatures. Printed bird patterns are interspersed with glitter and colors to create a definite mark. Designers like Manish Arora, and Marc Jacobs used bird patterns tastefully to accentuate their creations.
Smooth and shiny fabric

Smooth, shine and glitter are the textures of spring 2012 and the designers have used them with beautiful twists to create flowing outlines that weave magic around women. Elegant and Edgy, Miu Miu, Balenciaga, Christopher Kane and Victoria Beckham showcased their designs in matte satin finishes that create smooth flowing and balmy styles that add a very soothing and relaxing touch to the entire garment.
Soft tones

Soft, pastel tones define the spring season beautifully and taking this trend a little further, Prada, Valentino, Versus, Louis Vuitton, Preen, etc. experimented with knee length to floor length garments that also had a lot of airiness with cut out fabrics and sheer and lacy styles to pep up the entire spring season. Pastels, combined with interesting cuts and styles dominated the ramp to create an atmosphere of happiness and thrill.
Revealing abs

The days of covering your body entirely to protect your skin from the harsh winter climate can sometimes become boring and daunting. Spring 2012 more than makes up for your complaints and gives you silhouettes and sheer fabrics that can reveal your toned mid section, without compromising on your modesty. Beautiful styles from Anthony Vaccarello, Carven, Altuzarra, Emilio Pucci and Acne bring out the grace of your flat abs in a variety of ways.
Peplum trend

Peplum is a short overskirt that is attached to a fitted top. Peplum styles are extremely popular this summer. The short, flared skirt comes attached to a jacket, skirt or a blouse and looks beautiful on a tall woman. They are also good for creating an illusion of curves and great for thin women who want to create a curvy silhouette. Peplum styles from Jason Wu, Nina Ricci, Loewe, Yves Saint Laurent and Giorgio Armani ruled the ramp in shiny, sheer, printed and heavy fabrics. Peplums are must have styles this season and can be created in varying flares that suit your body image.
Abstract visions

Coming to prints and blocks, abstract prints and blocks are in and designers have experimented with geometric prints, clean and modernistic lines and angular cuts, taking inspiration from the 20th century geometric abstraction movement in the art world. Styles included bold geometric prints, combination of shiny fabrics, tastefully put together to create panels and geometric patterns on the garment, mixture of various textures to create geometric patterns, abstract art prints on interesting silhouettes etc. Fashion houses like Proenza Schouler, Hermès, Barbara Bui, Gucci, Marni, etc. came out with electrifying prints and styles worth taking a look at.
Lacey tales- Baroque fashion

Baroque reigned supreme in many collections portrayed at the spring fashion 2012. Not surprising, as baroque brings out the opulence and vibrancy of spring season. Baroque prints, embroideries and designs created a touch of elegance to the entire spring collection showcased by Aquilano e Rimondi, Stella McCartney, Andrew Gn and Thakoon.
