Despite being quipped with better knowledge of feminine curves and a woman's basic needs, female designers always lose the battle against their male counterparts. Men seem to be teaching the tricks of fashion trade to female designers.

The professionals clarify that while women emphasize on structure, aesthetics and purpose, men design clothes keeping only the glamour factor in mind. Hilary Alexander, fashion director of The Daily Telegraph explains that,

Men don't, or not many men, bend down to fill washing machines, vacuum, clamber on to the tube with a baby and a buggy. Men don't do those kind of things so they don't understand when clothes don't work.

However, Alexander says that men definitely score on the glamour factor, probably because they know what kind of glamorous clothes turn them towards women.

Italian designer Valentino, who is well known as the 'master of the dress,' offered some real ultra-feminine, glamorous outfits at the Paris ready-to-wear shows for next autumn said that his mantra is to 'make a woman to look beautiful.' On the other hand, Stella McCartney's collection rated high on wearibility.

But the thousand-dollar question remains that why there are more men in the field of designing. Godfrey Deeny, senior critic and European editor for Fashion Wire Daily explains that a career as a designer is very demanding and women find is a little difficult to cope up with the stress involved. Deeny says,

I think women are probably much more sensitive and emotional to the whole industry than perhaps men are.
