Jewellery designer Beth Humphrey is one cool chica. She is one of those blessed designers who have the brains to materialize an idea. The combination of semi-precious stones, clay and unique materials such as Roman Sealstone render her pieces an exotic look.
For a mini biography on this talented artist read further-
Beth Humphrey currently resides in Lee, MA. She was born and raised in New Jersey and was passionate for art, right from her early days. In 2007, she graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (Risd) with a BFA in Jewellery and Metal smithing.
“I've always been interested in art, but it wasn't until I was attending Risd that I knew I would focus on jewellery. However, if you ask any of my family members, they will tell you that they knew from the time I was a preschooler because I would sit on my Aunt's lap and examine all her jewellery and have her explain what everything was”- Beth Humphrey

I recently had the opportunity to communicate with Beth and here’s what she had to say:
Radhika- How would you describe your personal style?
Beth- I would say that I have an eclectic style. I like to mix simplicity, elegance, intricacy, detail, and humor with inspiration from the people and events going on around me.

Radhika- Who are your fashion icons (past or present)? Do you think they influenced your personal style?
Beth- I don't really have any specific people as fashion icons, but I do find that jewellery made by the ancient Egyptians along with jewellery from the Victorian era to be quite interesting and fun to explore. I also find the surrealist art movement another intriguing and influential interest that leaves an impression on my work.

Radhika- Can you share some jewellery making tips with us?
Beth- My jewellery making tips for others are: Learn as many techniques as you can, make models when you're not quite sure how something is going to go together, and don't be afraid to experiment, play, and have fun.

Radhika- What type of materials do you prefer?
Beth- In the favorite materials department, I really enjoy working with polymer clay (like Sculpey, Fimo, etc.) which you can bake right in your conventional kitchen oven. I also love working with gold and silver, especially when I am piercing out intricate details by hand with a jeweller's saw.

Radhika- Where can people find your work?
Beth- I currently work for R.W. Wise Goldsmiths in Lenox, MA in which I get to work with gold and fine gemstones and get to create some of my own designs. The pieces I make there can be seen on the company website, www.rwwise.com, or in the store. I also periodically post pictures of new work on my website, www.coroflot.com/bhumphrey.
