How to fishtail braid

Resources required:

1. Long hair or medium hair
2. Comb
3. Elastic band

1. Part your hair into two sections

Divide your hair using a comb into two sections ; left and right from the middle of your head.Make sure that both the sections contain equal hair.Grab two sections of your hair in two hands.

2.Start braiding

Start braiding from the right section by pulling out half inch hair seen underneath your right ear using your right hand and cross it to the left side keeping it secure in your left hand along with the left section of hair .Similarly do the same for the other section, pull out half inch hair from the base of your left ear using your left hand and cross it to the right side keeping it secure in your right hand along with the right section of hair.

3. Continue braiding

Repeat the braiding in the above mentioned fashion till you reach the tip of your hair.You can keep the braid loose or tight as you wish.

4. Secure your fishtail braid with elastic band

Once you have finished braiding,keep it secure by tying an elastic band at the tip of your hair.

1. Can fishtail braid be done on short hair?

Well minimum requirement to do a fishtail braid is medium hair and long hair. If your hair is too short or only till your neck, doing fishtail braid can be difficult as your hair is not long enough.

2. Should i make the fishtail braid tight or loose?

It is good to make the fishtail tight so that the layers don't fall off the braid but if you want that effortless look you can make it loose as well. It is better to make it tight first and then loosen the layers by widening them with your fingers or teasing through with the help of a comb.

1. Always pull out skinny strands of hair from each sections which will give you a more intricate look.
2. While braiding use the same thickness throughout.
3. For thicker hair, use thicker strands for braiding fishtail.
4. Fish tail will become more easy if you tie a low pony tail at the nape of your neck for braiding also ensuring a tighter grip.

2. After completing your fishtail braid, use hairspray to make your hair stay firm and to avoid that wavy look.
3. You can also loosen the braid, by pulling on it a bit after finishing your fishtail.
