Be it a dead bird or a condom, inspiration knows no boundaries. Help Desk Director Sally Rosen of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, San Francisco, has helped create ‘Discard to Divine’, a fashion line that is made from piles of torn, stained, and unwanted clothing. The project was begun in 2005, and is now in it’s sixth edition.

Rosen is a social worker and works to help the city's poor, abused, and homeless people. The money raised from the sale of ‘Discard to Divine’ garments will go for their welfare. Rosen, along with local fashion designers, has transformed disposed clothing into exquisite upcycled designs for auctioning.
Other fashion houses who often design for charity are Ralph Lauren, best-known for his Polo Ralph Lauren clothing brand. Lauren helps raise money for The Pink Pony Fund and The Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention. Well-known designer Kenneth Cole is associated with the charity amfAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research); while PATRICK ROBINSON, the Creative Director of Gap design contributes to P.A.C.E. (Personal Advancement, Career Enhancement). The list of such designers is endless. We hope this step towards humanity through fashion flourishes for long.
