The vintage print designer's first collection for the store was its most successful collaboration to date and went on sale in April with queues of eager shoppers.

Birtwell's eagerly-anticipated autumn/winter 2006 range is predicted to be as popular.

She said, 'I really enjoy working with Topshop. It's a very different procedure to the way Ossie and I used to work but there is an energy working with the team that is infectious. I was overwhelmed by the response, it's fabulous that my designs appeal to a broad range of young women today, it's like my work has come full circle.'

A Topshop spokesperson was quoted saying about the April collection, 'The collection sold out in three minutes in Oxford Street, London. Dresses were ripped and displays pulled over.'

This time, lingerie made from chiffon and silk, a new umbrella design as well as checked blouses and halter neck tops are the main attractions.
