The friction between fashion and comfort is a common phenomenon. When it comes to shoes it becomes even more problematic. The idiom ‘what looks good doesn’t necessarily feel good’ is true in this case. Some of the best looking shoes are also the ones that are prone to cause damage. The struggle between looking good and feeling good can be real tiresome sometimes.

Here we look at four shoe styles that are otherwise considered essential fashion accessory; but generally end up affecting the balance of your health.
1. High heels and higher problems
High heels are one of the most common footwear among women. High heels are also responsible for a plethora of feet and health problems. The problems vary from chronic pain, pump bums to twisted and sprained ankles. It is obvious that heels are designed against our natural posture, this results in putting extra pressure on the ball of the feet. Persistence of such pressure over a long period of time can cause nerve inflammation. Stilettos can also cause severe damage to our ligaments as they do not offer proper support. To avoid such complications you must avoid wearing heels over 2 inches. Opting for thicker heels is also a good idea.
2. Painful pointy shoes
Pointy shoes put unnecessary pressure on the front part of your feet, this can result in a condition called bunions. Bunions are unsightly deformation that results in a bump around your toe area. Hammertoe is another likely condition that can occur by prolonged use of pointy shoes. These problems are not just mere physical; they require surgical intervention if left undetected for long. Avoid wearing pointy shoes at all costs; rather go for rounded toe shoes that are more in sync with our feet structure.
3. Flip flops
The basic problem with most shoe designs is that they do not provide enough support to your feet. Flip flop design suffers from the same flaw. Wearing flip flops can result in various kinds of problems. By wearing flip flops high portion of your feet gets exposed, which is not good for your feet. Sporty flip flops can be a solution. Sporty flip flops provide better support and are designed for intense walks. These shoes are also termed as toning shoes and provide much better alternative to normal flip flops.
4. Ballet flats
Ballet flats are unarguably one of the most comfortable forms of footwear for women. Their simple but trendy design is indeed quite alluring. However, they too can cause various health problems. Ballet flats do not provide sufficient arch support which can lead to plantar fasciitis. Plantar fascia is a connective tissue in the arch of our foot, continuous use of ballet flats can cause inflammation in this region which leads to plantar fasciitis. Hip, back and knee problems are also common.
