Flip-flops sure is a stylish piece of footwear with high cool quotient. They are handy and people like to believe that they are most comfortable for your feet. Sadly, the latter part is not true. As opposed to what most think, flip-flops can actually cause a lot of damage and should be worn rather sparingly. Some facts about flip-flops are stated as under
1. The Ugly truth
Colorful and bright as they may seem, but the ugly truth is that these cute little babies put your feet in bad position, so much so that it may cause damage further up to the leg, knees and even spine. Flip-flops provide no support to your feet and your body was not designed to work in that fashion. Even though, you may feel comfortable shuffling around wearing flip-flops, but actually they are putting unnecessary extra pressure on your heels.
Moreover, since flip-flops offer no structure or form, your body has to work doubly hard to keep the shoe in place. This may sometimes lead to alignment problems, change of shape or abnormal growth of a bone related issues.
2. Heel problems
There is no denying the fact that it is quite taxing for your heels when you choose to wear flip-flops. As they provide no support or structure, poor heels have to bear all the brunt. Condition where fat padding beneath the heels spreads out is a common complaint. All that extra pressure on your heels because of continuously walking in those flat, thin soles can lead to serious inflammatory condition called Planter fasticitis.
3. Body pain
Surprisingly, it is not just the heels or feet that are affected because of wearing flip-flops. As per the studies conducted, the change of stride as a result of wearing flip-flops can cause a great deal of pain and soreness further up to your legs, knees, hips and even your back. Wearing flip-flops also results in your foot making an inward rolling motion that can further deteriorate the condition. Long-term wearing of flip-flops can cause your toes to being pulled out of alignment. This may further facilitate painful bony growths called “Bunions” on the big toe. Bunions overtime lead to knee problems and other joints and muscle conditions.
The facts mentioned above are dreadful. Having said that, you do not have to chuck all your favorite flip-flops just yet. Moderation is the key. Occasional strolling around flaunting your cute and colorful pair of flip-flops on a bright sunny day is a great idea. It is okay to wear flip-flops as long as you know where to draw the line. If you are the one who simply can not do without your flip-flops, better choice is to opt for flats. Flat shoes with roomy toe area and plenty arch support make for an ideal choice. Ballerinas are another great option and they look just as cute and girly.
