1. Heels make all the difference

When it comes to wardrobe mantra, the higher the heels the better! They not only make legs look longer and more slender, but also work as a great confidence booster. If paired with the right clothes and color, high heels can make a person look absolutely dashing. They are also versatile which means it gives you diversity making them look great with almost any outfit. Pair some high heels with a formal suit to head to the office or with skinny fit denim jeans for a night out and they both would just work perfectly well. The rule, however, is the higher the heel, the more easy it is to adapt it to the occasion. If you are daring, go for those spike heels or if you think they are uncomfortable, then opt for chunky heels of an unusual shape.

2. Size and fit matters

Gone are the days when over size and baggy clothes were in style. Now people are looking for the perfect fit and size which brings out your figure as best as possible. While shopping around, make sure all the clothes you pick up are of the right size and they fit perfectly. Loose fitted ones can make you look shabby and awkward and can sometimes make you look a tad more larger. Also, dress according to your figure and proportions and get clothes that fit your shape. For example, a top should ideally fall just below your belt and short jackets look great when paired with jeans, a t-shirt or a plain shirt. If you are opting for crop pants, then make sure they stand mid ankle and pair with some gorgeous ankle boots or even flats.

3. Classic couture

Dressing according to the season is important, but that doesn't mean you have to change your wardrobe every three months. Instead, go for those classic couture items that every girl must have in her wardrobe, come rain, shine or snow. These include a trench coat, a little black dress, a cropped Chanel-style jacket, leather jacket and some neutral colored shirts and t-shirt. If you have these basic clothing items in your wardrobe you can be all creative and mix and match with bright and contrasting colors.

4. Be creative with colors

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to dressing up is that you shouldn't be afraid to play with colors. Going for the usual black and white colors may be easy, but when it comes to being versatile, your options are actually limited. To prevent looking like you are at the office all the time, get bold and bright colors and experiment with mixing and matching them. For example, pair some loud accessories with a formal suit or put on a bright pink cardigan over a grey dress and you could simply stand out in a crowd. That way you are neither too jazzy at work, nor too dull at a party.

5. Pick up your basics first

Picking a scarf first and then deciding what to pair it with is the wrong way to go about things. Instead of planning your look around accessories and other small details, go for the more basic and expensive items like dresses, suits, coats etc. first. That way you will know what other less significant items you need to buy to match them, and end up spending much less money possible.

6. Find a perfect pair of jeans for yourself

One clothing item you shouldn't compromise on, and one which you can splurge a bit of money on is a pair of jeans. They are the basic item for a huge mass of people and so it is very important to focus on a perfect pair. They should fit well in all the right places and should be a color you can more or less match with anything and everything. Try and go for a good brand, as jeans is one item that should eventually last you your whole life.

7. Vintage clothes need to be selected carefully

You need to be very careful while choosing those vintage clothes as you could either be marked as a lady with taste or someone who just doesn't know how to dress. While shopping for vintage clothing at those markets, you are not left with many options when it comes to size. You obviously cant try it out and so its very important to figure out what size clothes fit you. Remember that the older the piece, the more different the measurements and proportions would be. Also, clearly check the items for damage or dirty spots, as once you have purchased, you will not be able to return them and you'll hardly be able to get rid of them as well.

8. Let your imagination run wild

Experiment with a lot of accessories and belts and scarves to make a look work for you. If you think your dress looks a bit puffy around the hips, add a think belt and you would get a nice silhouette look. If your spaghetti strap looks a bit too bare, wrap a scarf around, so it could double as a warm up option later or if your blouse looks too plain, pin a brooch and you are good to go. The options are endless if you have a wardrobe with all sorts of lively items.

9. No point in fussing

The first thing you do when you see a great dress displayed on the window is decide whether you are going to buy it or not. On impulse, you might be tempted to buy it whatever be the scene, but make a constant effort to not let the feeling bother you. Avoid making a fuss, stand back and take time to think to yourself, if that piece of clothing is absolutely necessary or not. You could come to your senses and avoid picking it up.

10. Rules are meant to be broken

Although there are unwritten rules in the world of fashion, there are times when you can break them to be a bit more experimental. You do not have to be traditional and match everything you wear to bring out the best look. Instead being a bit unpredictable and doing something absolutely bizarre is acceptable when it comes to dressing up.
