If you've got it, flaunt it. This seems to be the mantra of fashion icons who've popularized certain iconic dresses over the years. There may be so many celebrities in the world but not many achieve the status of being a fashion icon that easily. Some have this spectacular fashion sense so intrinsic to them that whatever they wear become fashion statements overnight and one can see cheap replicas of them at local stores. In fact, a particular iconic dress is all that is takes to propel a particular star's status from being a pretty girl to a glam diva. Sometimes, a particular dress can even define the fashion trend of a complete generation. Be it J.Lo's green Versace dress which left little to the imagination or Geri Halliwell's iconic Union Jack outfit. Twiggy's short dresses which revolutionized the way the women in the sixties dressed, or Madonna's sexy white lace dress or Liz Hurley's daring black safety pin gown, each of them are unforgettable in their own way. We take a look at a few iconic celebrities and the dresses that made an imprint on all our memories.
1. Jennifer Lopez

Before Jennifer Lopez became J.Lo, she was better known for being rapper Puff Diddy’s girlfriend rather than for her a few acting stints. However, this forest-themed dress by Donatella Versace which she wore at the 2000 Grammy awards was all it took to get her noticed as a fashion icon. Millions started aping her style trends across the globe which was perhaps what inspired her to start her clothing line in 2003. Today, J.Lo continues to be a well-revered style icon and her 2000 Grammy Dress in on display at the Grammy Museum.
2. Madonna

Yes, she's a 'Material Girl in a Material World' and her clothes bear testimony to this line. Madonna, who made even conical bras look fashionable has been a worshiped by fashionistas everywhere and it's no surprise that the ethereal lace number which she wore at 1984 MTV Awards finds it's place in the 5 most iconic dresses list. With the toyboy belt, long arm-length lace gloves and excess bling, Madonna showed the world that it was okay to go all out and flaunt whatever you've got. Much later, Madonna licensed her name to a clothing line aptly titled 'The Material Girl Collection' cementing her status as a style icon. Nevertheless, she will be best remembered for flamboyant white lace dress.
3. Twiggy

Twiggy, known for her waif-like figure, long skinny legs and boyish looks was one of the most popular international supermodel of the 'swinging sixties'. Twiggy iconized this little babydoll style frock which was a rage during her time. Like most of the other style icons on our list, Twiggy designed clothes as well and even launched her own clothing line- Twiggy Dresses in 1967.
4. Elizabeth Hurley

There was a time when Elizabeth Hurley was more popular for her fashion sense than her relationships. Most will remember the iconic, sexy, black Versace dress held together by golden safety-pins which Hurley wore to the premier of her then beau Hugh Grant's film 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' in 1994. After this, her popularity soared and she became a well-known celebrity across the globe and even managed to bag an Estee Lauder modelling contract along with numerous film roles.
5. Geri Halliwell

Before Spice Girl Geri Halliwell popularized this Union Jack dress, one still associated the flag with boring, old and stodgy values. But Geri 'spiced' it up and made it cool and fashionable when she wore it at the 1997 Brit Awards popularizing the notions of 'Girl Power' and 'Cool Britannia'. The dress was later bought for a whopping £41,320 by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas and holds the Guinness World Record of being the most expensive piece of popstar clothing dealt at an auction. When the band was reformed ten years later, Geri tried to buy back the dress but she was not successful in doing so.
